served in the kitchen of the
Imperial Train. During short trips, it
was probably just a snack, but during
longer journeys one can safely assume
that the emperor’s favorite dishes were
served. What we do know was that the
emperor never liked to take much time
out of his busy workdays to devote to
meals. Even a lunch or dinner of several
courses was not supposed to last longer
than an hour, after which he moved to
the smoking room to smoke one of his
beloved cigars.
