In the tradition of its historic predecessor
The history of the Imperial and Royal court trains dates back to the 19th century, the great era of railway construction. During this time, magnificent trains were created for Europe’s royal households. The pursuit of technical precision and noble craftsmanship gave rise to unique palaces on rails. The imperial court train of Austria-Hungary was built in Prague by the renowned wagon and locomotive manufacturer Franz Ringhoffer in Prague-Smíchov. During both World Wars, many carriages were destroyed; only one survived and can today be admired in the Prague Technical Museum. The preserved original blueprints served as inspiration for the Majestic Imperator Train de Luxe.
When speaking of the Austro-Hungarian court train, one name must be mentioned: Claudius von Klaudy. He was the Director of Court Railway Travel to His Apostolic Majesty and was responsible for the comfort and safety of the imperial family’s journeys.
